IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM: DESERT VICTORY & IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM: THE TRUE GLORY

Historically Significant British Films Capture the WWII Battle of Alamein in North Africa and the European Campaign from D-Day to Berlin

Port Washington, NY – This March, E1 Entertainment releases two outstanding DVD titles as part of their Imperial War Museum Collection. These Oscar® winning documentaries, DESERT VICTORY (1944) and THE TRUE GLORY (1946), are presented on DVD for the first time, each providing a permanent visual record of the WWII military campaigns in North Africa and Europe. Each 2-DVD set features four additional bonus documentaries, which compliment the feature film with additional footage and information. The IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM: DESERT VICTORYand IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM: THE TRUE GLORY DVDs are essential viewing for WWII and history aficionados and arrive in stores on March 17 for $24.98SRP each.

In 1944, the feature-length Desert Victory earned the Academy Award for Best Documentary. Widely recognized as one of the greatest documentaries of World War II, this film was made by the British Army and Royal Air Force to capture the Battle of El Alamein as it happened. Teams of cameramen followed the 8th Army troops into battle against Rommel’s Afrika Korps, and recorded some of the war’s most extraordinary frontline footage. The IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM: DESERT VICTORY 2-DVD set also includes three bonus documentary short films made during the early part of WWII in North Africa: Wavell’s 30,000 chronicles the Libyan campaign of 1940-41 in which British forces commanded by General Wavell defeated the Italian attack on Egypt, the British film, The Siege of Tobruk, and the Australian film Defenders of Tobruk, each a record of the troops in action at Tobruk. A fourth bonus documentary included, Land and Live in the Desert, is a 1945 U.S. military instructional film which depicts the methods for surviving an aircraft crash in the desert landscape.

The True Glory won the 1946 Academy Award for Best Documentary. This feature length film was compiled from over six million feet of film supplied by over 700 front-line camera men, 149 of whom were killed, injured or missing in action. Produced by the Allied military during 1944-45, the documentary covers every major engagement from D-Day to the fall of Berlin, including Omaha Beach, the Falaise Gap, Caen, Arnhem, the liberation of Paris and the Battle of the Bulge. The True Glory features an introduction by General Eisenhower, who was personally involved in the making of this auspicious production. The IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM: THE TRUE GLORY 2-DVD set also includes four bonus documentary films; From Italy to D-Day, From D-Day to Paris, From Paris to the Rhine, and From the Rhine to Victory which were published by British Paramount News for the Department of Ministry, and cover the campaign in Europe.
