Port Washington, NY– A deeply religious man finds his faith tested when he is thrust into the material world in Ozer Kiziltan’s powerful TAKVA: A MAN’S FEAR OF GOD. The film, a prize winner at major film festivals including Toronto and Berlin, makes its U.S. debut on KOCH Lorber Films DVD on December 9 for $26.98SRP.
Set in Istanbul, a city on the border of Western and Eastern civilizations where the modern world and the ancient coexist TAKVA: A MAN’S FEAR OF GOD is centered around Muharrem, a quiet, humble and anonymous Istanbul Muslim living a solitary life of strict adherence to his religion, prayer and abstinence from sex and alcohol. When his good behavior draws the attention of a powerful religious leader, he is rewarded with the job of collecting rent from the numerous apartments and shops that the religious group owns. Suddenly, Muharrem is thrust into the business world, complete with a cell phone, Western-style suits and a car. Alternately anxious, curious and confused by this strange world of money, corruption and dishonesty – made worse by a recurring dream involving a seductive woman -- Muharrem begins to fear that God will punish him.
Turkey’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign-Language Film, TAKVA was an official selection at the Tribeca and Seattle Film Festivals. The film, a hit with audiences worldwide, also captured the prestigious FIPRESCI prize at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Innovation Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, while the Sarajevo Film Festival named it Best Picture. Additionallu, Erkan Can (Muharrem), won the Best Actor prize at both the 2006 Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival in Turkey and the Geneva Film Festival.
The DVD, which has an SRP of $26.98, presents the film in its original widescreen 1.85:1 (16x9) aspect ratio and Dolby Digital sound. The film is in Turkish, with English subtitles.
