Port Washington, NY – On January 8, KOCH Vision and British comedian, screenwriter, film director and popular historian Terry Jones (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian) brings an entertaining expedition through Roman history to DVD for the first time. TERRY JONES’ BARBARIANS, originally presented as a four-part documentary series which aired on BBC2 in 2006, explores Roman history from the alternate perspective of the Barbarians. A rare blend of scholarly research combined with Jones’ familiar iconoclastic brand of humor makes this a must-have for history enthusiasts as well as Monty Python fans. The TERRY JONES’ BARBARIANS 2-DVD set will be available for $29.98 SRP.

TERRY JONES’ BARBARIANS takes a completely fresh approach to Roman history; offering viewers the chance to see the Romans from a non-Roman perspective, revealing that most of the “Barbarian” groups written off by the Romans as uncivilized, savage and “barbaric” were in fact organized, motivated and intelligent, with no intentions of overthrowing or plundering the Roman Empire. Throughout the four parts (The Primitive Celts, The Savage Goths, The Brainy Barbarians, and The End of the World), Jones argues that our entire understanding of Roman history may be innacurate and one-sided – unfairly representing the ancient accomplishments and advanced societies of the Britons, Gauls, Greeks, Persians and Africans. Travelling lands that were once part of the vast Roman Empire and exploring 700 years of history, the irreverant Jones uses wit, passion and the latest archaeological and historical evidence to transform our popular view of the Roman Empire legacy and the creation of the modern world.
Best known as a co-founder of Monty Python, Jones joined the comedic group in 1969 and wrote and performed Monty Python's Flying Circus until 1974, moving on to co-direct with Terry Gilliam the perennial comedies Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python's Life of Brian and Monty Python's Meaning of Life, the latter of which won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes. Jones’ writing and directing credits also include Children’s Film Festival favorite The Wind in the Willows and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, as well as several popular and award-winning children’s and best-selling non-fiction books. In addition to BARBARIANS, Jones has presented numerous successful television documentaries including The Crusades (BBC, 1993), Ancient Inventions (Discovery, 1997), Hidden Histories (Discovery, 2002), Medieval Lives (BBC, 2004) and The Story Of One (BBC, 2004).
